The distillery name translates to “corner of the field” in Scottish Gaelic. This was true when the distillery was first established just outside Glasgow in 1823. During its history the distillery has undergone many ownership changes, perhaps none more significant than when the Morrison Bowmore Group purchased the property in 1984. What sets Auchentoshan apart from all other distilleries in Scotland is that every drop of liquid has been triple distilled - which increases the ABV but also creates a much lighter spirit. Once barrelled, the 'new-make' spirit is influenced to a much greater extent by the wood and so Auchentoshan takes great care in selecting the very best casks. The award-winning Auchentoshan Three Wood has been aged in three different cask types: refill bourbon casks, Spanish Oloroso Sherry barrels prior to finishing in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks.
Nose: Blackcurrant, brown sugar, orange, plum and raisin notes are present.
Palate: Fruit and syrup. Hazelnut with hints of cinnamon and lemon. A butterscotch sweetness adds to the overall complexity.
Finish: A fresh and fruity, smooth whisky with long lasting oaky sweetness.
