Glenfarclas translates to ‘valley of the green grass’, an indication of the richness of the pasture land which surrounds the distillery. Purchased in 1865 from the original owner Robert Hay for the princely sum of £512.11 by neighbor John Grant, the distillery has remained in Grant family hands ever since.
While the core line 105 is reputed to age between 8 & 10 years, this expression aged in Sherry casks for a full 16 years. Bottled at true cask strength, this sherry bomb exhibits all the best attributes of a well-made Speyside whisky.
Nose: Chocolate and vanilla co-exist on the nose, with some nuttiness and oak spices lurking.
Palate: Sherry casking shines through with with raisins, chocolate, stewed plum, nutmeg and clove. Creme Brulee comes in on the back palate.
Finish: A long finish with dried fruit and spices carrying through.
