When volunteer firefighter Jess Graber responded to a neighbor's barn fire down the road, he never imagined what would come of it.
The barn that Jess made an effort to save belonged to Woody Creek local George Stranahan, a long-time brewery owner and whiskey connoisseur. The two discovered a shared passion for the Colorado outdoors and a proper pour of fine whiskey.
From this newfound friendship, Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey was born. Using their mountain surroundings to their advantage, the pair developed a recipe for a distinctively smooth and flavourful American single malt whiskey.
Stranahan’s Sherry Cask is the latest innovation & expression in single malt. The base expression is the four-year-old Rocky Mountain Single Malt finished in 500-litre Oloroso Sherry Barrels. Procured from the Andalusia region of southern Spain (known to many oenophiles as the Sherry Triangle), these sherry barrels have been aging wine for over 40 years, leaving a depth of flavour soaked into the ancient oak staves.
Nose: Over-ripe cherry, sweet apples, raisins, almonds, leather and fresh-cut hay.
Palate: Honey, Montmorency cherries, blackcurrant, and fig, with a nutty brine and walnut characteristics.
Finish: Buttery caramel, whipped creme, brown sugar and smoked cayenne.
