Longmorn was built by one of the 19th century’s most interesting whisky entrepreneurs, John Duff. Shortly after building Longmorn he built
Benriach right next door. However he was forced to sell Longmorn after the whisky crash in the late 1890s. But Longmorn's whisky was a much sought after malt for blends - contribuuting greatly to VAT 69 and Dewars. Masataka Taketsuru, founder of Nikka, spent time apprenticing at the distillery and the stills at Nikka are likely modelled on Longmorn’s. Longmorn was purchased in 1977 from the James Grant family and is now part of Chivas Brothers.
