Lochlea operated as a dairy farm until 2014, when the new owners decided that for a farm of this size to be viable, they needed to do something very different. In 2015, 50 acres of malting barley were planted and soon after the decision was made to build a farm distillery.
Construction began in 2017, licenses were acquired and in August 2018 whisky production began on the very lands that Robbie Burns worked during the last half of the 18th century.
Under the management of ex-Laphroaig Distillery Manager John Campbell. Having built up one of the top ten Scotch brands in the world over the past 27 years, John brought a wealth of knowledge and a burning ambition to help Lochlea fulfil its potential.The Harvest 3rd Crop was matured in Port, Bourbon & Oloroso Sherry casks and was inspired by the annual barley harvest on Lochlea Farm.
Producer's Tasting Notes
Nose: Strawberry jam, clotted cream.
Palate: White chocolate, freshly baked apple pie.
Finish: Beautifully balanced with a hint of black pepper.
