Originating in 1998, retired Master Blender Michael Booth was paying homage to family heritage when he named his 100% Rye 'Lot No. 40'.
The name refers to the land where his family set up their first Canadian still and the mashbill emulates the original created by Joshua Booth, 7 generations ago. While the mash has not deviated from its 100% Rye billing, the original mash was: 95% unmalted and 5% malted rye. In 2012, the mash was altered to 100% unmalted rye (although enzymes to break down the rye starch into sugar also had to be incorporated). Lot 40 is now distilled at the Hiram Walker Distillery in Windsor Ontario.
