Located in Campbeltown on the Mull of Kintyre, Springbank is a privately-owned distillery that is still operated by decedents of the original
founding family. One of the few distilleries that does 100% of its production on site – from malting the barley, to bottling and labeling – it all takes place on the Springbank properties in downtown Campbeltown. The tiny distillery produces three distinct expressions: Hazelburn (non-peated), Springbank (lightly peated) and Longrow (heavily peated). Springbank is definitely a throwback to the old days using worm tubs instead of condensers, very little automation, and dedicating themselves to employing as many Campbeltonians as they can, even though their annual output is exceeded by larger distilleries in a matter of weeks. True ambassadors of the Campbeltown style, the Springbank team launched “Kilkerran” on the site of a former distillery (Glengyle) when the Scotch Whisky Association ruled that there had to be at least three distilleries to designate Campbeltown a Scotch region. At the time there was only Springbank and Glen Scotia. Springbank is so dedicated to Campbeltown, Owner Hedley Wright has willed the distillery to a trust to be run by the town when he passes. This, along with the absolutely fantastic whisky they produce, makes Springbank one of our favourite distilleries in the world.
